Europe House Talks: Energy transition in BiH – Challenges and Opportunities

The Europe House and the EU4Energy project organized on December 5, 2024. panel discussion “Energy transition in Bosnia and Herzegovina: challenges and opportunities” with the aim of pointing out the current situation in the energy sector as well as opportunities and challenges in this key sector for the development of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event brought together the professional and academic community, representatives of the international and business community, as well as representatives of the European Union Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The panel discussion started at 10:30 a.m. and lasted until 12:00 p.m., and two Centers for Sustainable Energy Transition, established in Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, as part of the activities of EU4Energy project, which provides support for the energy transition in BiH, actively presented themselves during the event.

The experts from the energy sector, representatives of the government and the private sector discussed current best practices, challenges and opportunities for the development of the energy sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The following will participate in the panel: dr. Admir Softic, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH; prof. dr. Amila, Pilav-Velic Faculty of Economics UNSA and Center for Sustainable Energy Transition Sarajevo; prof. dr. Marko Djogo, UIS Faculty of Economics and Center for Sustainable Energy Transition East Sarajevo; prof. dr. Mustafa Music, EU4Energy project and Mr. Ivan Vrbic from the company Cosicpromex d.o.o.

The panel was moderated by Lejla Camo from Europe House, and at the beginning of the event, Nadia Bergamino gave a welcome speech on behalf of the European delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Introductory presentations at the beginning of the panel were given by: prof. dr. Amila Pilav-Velic (Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo and Center for Sustainable Energy Transition Sarajevo), prof. dr. Goran Orasanin (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering East Sarajevo and Center for Sustainable Energy Transition East Sarajevo) and dr. Admir Softic (Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina).

After the panel discussion, the first part of the two-day workshop organized by the EU4Energy project was held in the Europe House with the aim of supporting the Centers for Sustainable Energy Transition, strengthening the capacity of organizations and developing projects in accordance with the guidelines of the European Union for the improvement of the energy sector.
