EU4Energy project’s workshop on electricity storage options held in Jahorina

The workshop on electricity storage options was held on Jahorina mountain on 30 th and 31 st of May 2024. The event was organised by the project “EU4Energy – Support of the European Union to the
Energy Sector in BiH” in cooperation with NOSBIH.

The purpose of the workshop was to present and discuss with the relevant stakeholders in BIH the legal and regulatory aspects of the use of electricity storage in BiH. Moreover, the participants had the opportunity to discuss the best EU practices on the use of electricity storage technologies, integration of the electricity storage into the distribution and transmission system of BiH as well as market design for electricity storage and tariff systems used.

The workshop was organised for the representatives of the government, energy regulators, electricity companies and power network operators in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ms. Isabelle Gerkens, Head Regulation and Markets at the Elia Grid International – EGI (member of the Elia Group), has held the presentation at the workshop on the topic of “Principles of Market Design for Energy Storages”, informing the participants of the workshop on the related Belgian experience, including the specific issues of:

  • How the market design allows for the participation of storage and values the flexibility services provided by storage;
  • Taxes, surcharges and/or grid tariffs;
  • Network planning;
  • Permitting;
  • Arbitrage;
  • Example of the regulatory framework for electricity storage in Belgium.

The workshop was organised for the representatives of the government, energy regulators, electricity companies and power network operators in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
